WHY IS CURCUMIN IMPORTANT FOR THE TREATMENT OF VITILIGO?

The revolution brought by the VitiWiken line!

Index

Nowadays there are a great many active ingredients used effectively for the treatment of vitiligo; however, the use of one in particular is greater than others due to its particularly beneficial and powerful effects: we are talking about CURCUMIN. Turmeric, from which curcumin is extracted, contains a wide variety of micronutrients that are useful for the proper functioning of the body; however, of particular importance are certain constituents of the pigment extracted from turmeric, called curcuminoids.

These substances generally consist of two phenolic rings, connected by a carbon chain of variable length, which exhibits considerable functionalization with ketone groups and a series of conjugated double bonds. This makes them chemically capable of absorbing and emitting light in visible wavelengths, giving the turmeric pigment a yellow color, while at the same time exerting important antioxidant activity within our bodies.

The antioxidant activity is due to the chemical peculiarity of such molecules, which are able to react readily with oxygen and nitrogen free radicals in the body, the latter reacting readily with the double bonds and alcohol groups of such molecules oxidizing them to carbonyl groups and protecting molecules of biological importance from similar oxidation reactions.

Turmeric and Vitiligo

These peculiar characteristics are very important for the treatment of certain clinical conditions in which the patient is affected by high oxidative stress, one of which is vitiligo.

Vitilitic patients are, in fact, characterized by a deficiency of the enzyme tyrosinase, the purpose of which is to neutralize oxygen radicals, and the process of endogenous melanin production as a side effect has a significant production of oxygen radicals. This disease indirectly presents a risk of mutation due to the reactions of these species with DNA if the latter are not neutralized.

The patient with vitiligo is usually characterized by an autoimmune attack on the melanocytes: this situation also causeslocalized inflammation and, as in all inflammatory situations, it is associated with a situation of increased oxidative stress and production of radical oxygen species.

One of the causes of vitiligo is, in the tyrosinase-deficient patient, a situation of localized oxidative stress: the production of melanin causes, in fact, the production of many peroxide radicals as a side effect. If these peroxides are not effectively neutralized, the immune system can be activated by going to attacking the melanocytes and preventing melanosynthesis to reduce such oxidative damage. Oxidative stress can also cause the cells undergoing it to go into a process of apoptosis, further contributing to melanocyte death and reduced melanin production. In addition, the autoimmune attack triggers inflammation and with it an increase in oxygen radical production, thus contributing and aggravating the initial problem and potentially leading to theexpansion of the vitilitic lesion.

Why use turmeric in the treatment of Vitiligo?

Clearly, in such patients oxidative stress is an issue of no small importance: indeed, scientific studies already in the literature suggest that vitiligo treated with anti-inflammatories and antioxidants can improve, with maintenance of the remission situation and repigmentation of the affected areas.

There are specific studies regarding the intake of turmeric, or supplements containing curcumin and curcuminoids, by diet with very positive results in treating the condition in question.

In light of this and also considering the importance of association with black pepper extract, which is also rich in antioxidants and can enhance the absorption of curcuminoids, Wikenfarma research has given rise to VITIwiken,VITIwiken Cream and VITIwiken Face Cream: these are a line of products specifically for the treatment of the patient with vitiligo, capable of reducing oxidative stress and physiologically aiding the remission of the disease and the natural repigmentation of the skin.

Why choose VitiWiken?

In light of the above, the effectiveness of the VITIwiken line in the treatment of vitiligo is due to several factors: precisely because of the extreme synergy of its active ingredients, all products in the VITIwiken line act both from theinside (thanks to the tablets) and from theoutside (thanks to the creams) to promote skin repigmentation and alleviate oxidative stress, as well as reduce inflammation both systemically and locally.

In addition, VITIwiken FACE CREAM in particular is designed with a formulation without black pepper extract, so as to avoid unpleasant situations of redness of the eyes and the delicate skin of the face.
