CLINICAL CASE: PATIENT SUFFERING FROM TELOGEN EFFLUVIUM FOLLOWING EMOTIONAL STRESS

Patient: 25-year-old woman in apparent good health.
Anamnesis: The history reveals a major stressful state due to the recent death of a close relative, characterized by insomnia, easy irritability and profound asthenia, as well as profitable generalized hair loss. All combined with trichodynia and intense itching of the scalp.
Objective Examination: The pull test is strongly positive and there is diffuse redness of the capillitium with scratching lesions. Laboratory tests have been prescribed and show a thyropathy for which she was referred to an endocrinologist specialist, who prescribed appropriate replacement therapy.
Therapy: Therapy for telogen effluvium is started with Restax Effluvium at lunch and dinner for thirty days, then only at dinner for another three months, in addition to Restax Women’s Lotion to be applied three times a week for the duration of oral therapy.
After only one month of therapy, the patient experienced reduced hair loss and especially reduced trichodynia and itching.
Follow-up after 4 months: Follow-up highlights a slightly positive pull test, with reported very little hair loss on the part of the patient and most importantly there is an absence of trichodynia and itching.
Conclusions: Replacement therapy, combined with specific dermatologic therapy, resulted in significant improvement in objective parameters and subjective symptomatology with positive satisfaction on the part of physicians and the patient.
