The skin discolorations are areas of the skin where the complexion is different from the rest of the patient’s epidermis: they can be either lighter or darker than their contour and are often caused by infection or inflammation of various kinds.

Because of the different possible origins of these conditions, it is important to check their cause in function of appropriate treatment with the use of anti-inflammatories, both systemic and topical, in case of inflammation or with the use of antimicrobials in case of infection.
