WHY IS COENZYME Q10 ESSENTIAL IN ANTI-AGING TREATMENTS?

Coenzyme Q10 is an antioxidant involved in the normal electron transport chain and normal cellular metabolism. This particular active ingredient is present in the membranes of all mitochondria and is essential for cellular ATP production.

This coenzyme is produced from another antioxidant,ubiquinone, to which one (Q1) to 10 isoprene units (Q10) are bound: this tends to have a different concentration in male and female blood and tissues, so a product specifically for women will necessarily contain a different amount of active ingredient than one for male use.

What do we know about Coenzyme Q10?

As is evident from the data in the literature, men appear to produce higher amounts of coenzyme Q10 than women and exhibit higher concentrations of this antioxidant in both plasma and skin or muscle tissue. However, when taken orally with specific nutraceuticals, women appear to absorb this compound more efficiently, going so far as to exhibit higher blood levels of it than men following the intake of the same amounts of Q10.

Coenzyme Q10, thanks to its antioxidant action, contributes to reducing cellular aging, but not only that: there are studies in the scientific literature attesting that it is able, in vitro , to stimulate elastin production and reduce melanin and IL-1 synthesis. In short, it increases skin tone and elasticity, reducing any problems of localized hyperpigmentation that may occur with advancing age. It also reduces inflammation, as IL-1 is involved in inflammatory reactions, especially those triggered by excessive sun exposure.

When to introduce Coenzyme Q10 into one’s diet?

There are also clinical studies in the scientific literature on dietary Coenzyme Q10 supplementation, according to which in women in late childbearing years it has a dual role: to naturally reduce the likelihood of developing cancers (due to theantioxidant action that protects against mutations induced by oxygen free radicals) and to physiologically improve oocyte health, potentially increasing the likelihood of successful conceptions without development of aneuploidy by the fetus, a property of no small importance.

In conclusion, given the lower concentration of Coenzyme Q10 in female patients than in male patients, given the higher dietary absorption of the compound in women, given its benefits as an antioxidant to reduce accelerated skin aging due to oxidative stress and radiation exposure, and, finally, given its almost complete lack of side effects (except in rare cases of patients allergic to the active ingredient) supplementation with Coenzyme Q10 is an excellent solution in the formulation of anti-aging products specifically for women.
