blemishes and aging<\/em>, both cutaneous and systemic. Aesthetic medicine places its ultimate <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">goal<\/span> in achieving a state of health understood as <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">psychophysical well-being<\/span><\/em>, rather than as merely the absence of disease. <\/p><p>By virtue of this, ever since the birth of this discipline, more and more rigorous studies have been devoted to evaluating the mechanisms of aging and identifying active ingredients that can combat them.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3567023 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3567023\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h4>Aesthetic medicine and skin aging<\/h4>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dc2e2ce elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dc2e2ce\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><i>Female<\/i> skin aging, especially, has been a <b>primary topic<\/b> of investigation for this new discipline, which, in recent years, has expanded its reach <u><i>also <\/i><\/u>to <i>male<\/i> skin aging.<\/p><p>This is a complex topic and is often caused by intrinsic factors, arising from <em>the expression of our genetic makeup<\/em>, and extrinsic factors, that is, caused <em>by external agents and environmental factors.<\/em><\/p><p>The factors <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>intrinsic<\/em> <\/span>cause <strong><em>reduced proliferative capacity, cellular senescence <\/em><\/strong>e <strong><em>reduced production of skin structural proteins<\/em><\/strong> over the years, consequently causing a change in skin aesthetics.[1]<\/p><p>Aging <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>extrinsic<\/em><\/span>, mainly due to<strong> UV exposure<\/strong> (photoaging), on the other hand, causes changes in cellular metabolism, which are mainly due to mutations induced by radiation exposure and a loss of dermal matrix cohesion.[2]<\/p><p>With advancing age, moreover, the <strong>junction<\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>epidermis\/derma<\/em><\/span><strong>flattens<\/strong>, with reduction of the dermal papillae, which makes the skin more fragile and vulnerable to forces applied along the parallel to the aforementioned junction.
