DO YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW TO SUPPLEMENT VITAMIN D WHEN SUNSHINE IS NOT ENOUGH?
Index
According to the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS), about 50 percent of the adult population in Italy is vitamin D deficient while, according to a 2020 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), about 30 percent of Italian adolescents have vitamin D levels below recommended values.
Vitamin D deficiency, also known as hypovitaminosis D, is a condition that occurs when the body does not have enough vitamin D, which is critical in many bodily functions, such as, for example, in the absorption of calcium in the gut, which is essential for healthy bones and teeth, in strengthening immune and bone defenses, and in supporting muscle function.
But what is the source of vitamin D deficiency?
Vitamin D deficiency can result from a variety of factors:
- Poor sun exposure: Sunlight is the main source of vitamin D for our bodies, and during winter or when spending a lot of time indoors vitamin D synthesis may be reduced.
- Diet low in vitamin D: Few foods naturally contain vitamin D (such as liver, herring, tuna, generally fish eggs).
- Malabsorption: Certain medical conditions can impair the absorption of vitamin D from food.
- Biological factors: Some people are physiologically more at risk for vitamin D deficiency.
This, moreover, can manifest itself in several ways, some of them asymptomatic, and the most common symptoms are:
- Bone and muscle pain: In adults, vitamin D deficiency can cause bone and muscle weakness, which results in pain and discomfort, sometimes even extreme brittleness or osteoporosis, while in children it manifests as rickets, preventing proper bone development and growth.
- Asthenia: Vitamin D deficiency can cause a general feeling of exhaustion and fatigue.
- Depression: According to multiple studies, vitamin D is linked to mental health, so a low intake of this vitamin can dramatically increase the risk of depression.
Although these are the most common symptoms, other alarm bells can be identified in muscle cramps, hair loss, water retention, excessive sweating, drowsiness, irritability and difficulty concentrating.
How can it be optimally replenished?
Generally, hypovitaminosis D, as already anticipated, occurs mainly during the colder seasons: in fact, vitamin D is closely linked to sunlight, which facilitates and promotes its synthesization in the body; this is precisely why massive and controlled exposure to the sun is often recommended to remedy this deficiency.
Often, however, sunshine is not enough to replenish vitamin D deficiency, and during autumn and winter there is insufficient sunlight: adequate supplementation is needed in these cases.
Is there a SAFE and SPECIFIC supplement for hypovitaminosis D?
To counter vitamin D deficiency, Wikenfarma research, following various scientific trials and university studies, has developed Diviken Sublingual Spray e Diviken 15 Sublingual Spray.
Diviken is a Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2-7 sublingual spray with a pleasant strawberry flavor. The synergistic action of the two vitamins activates the proteins involved in calcium metabolism, maximizing calcium absorption and minimizing calcium loss, physiologically improving bone health. In addition, the combination of vitamin K2-7 totally negates any side effects from a massive intake of vitamin D.
With the recommended daily dose (4 sublingual sprays) Diviken provides. 25 mcg of vitamin D3 and 60 mcg of Vitamin K2-7, which, in severe cases of hypovitaminosis D, may not be sufficient; for this reason, a new version of Diviken, namely Diviken 15, has been developed, which has a higher concentration of vitamins: with the recommended daily dose Diviken 15 provides 50 mcg Vitamin D3 and 60 mcg Vitamin K2-7, which are respectively 1000% and 80% of the daily requirement (according to the nutrient reference values).
The real strength of Diviken and Diviken 15 lies in the sublingual spray formulation, which allows for extremely rapid and maximal absorption. Diviken and Diviken 15 maximize the absorption of calcium into the bones and prevent it from settling and creating sediments, which are terribly dangerous because they are a major contributor to stone formation.
