Numerous studies show that Oxidative Stress plays a primary role in the development of vitiligo. In fact, melanocytes isolated from vitiligo patients are more susceptible to oxidative stress-induced cell damage, with an elevation of markers such as Superoxide Dismutase, Malondialdehyde, ROS, and a decrease in antioxidant activity.
Therefore, the hypothesis has been put forward that the melanocyte, as a result of oxidative stress-induced cell damage, may unmask or release proteins that subsequently serve as antigens and activate the cell-mediated immune response against other melanocytes.
In these observations lies the rationale for the use of topical and/or systemic antioxidants in the treatment of vitiligo, use of which several open trials support the efficacy.
PIPER NIGRUM, has antioxidant, antihistamine, and antimicrobial properties conferred by its main alkaloid, PIPERINE. In addition, studies both in vitro and in vivo show that PIPER NIGRUM also has melanocyte proliferation-stimulating effects.
The repigmentation generally observed following topical use of PIPER NIGRUM preparations follows a perifollicular pattern in the early stages, this finding is consistent with the scientific literature, which asserts precisely that repigmentation is possible in areas where there are pigmented hairs, which is suggestive of the presence of a melanin reservoir.

RESVERATROL is a naturally occurring polyphenol capable of crossing the skin barrier, which enables its potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant action when delivered through topical formulations. Topical application has been shown to be well tolerated and safe in several in vivo studies. The anti-inflammatory action of resveratrol at the skin level lies mainly in its ability to promote repair of cellular damage following the generation of reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxidation particularly after exposure to UVA radiation.
PIPER NIGRUM AND RESVERATROL thus play a synergistic action in counteracting oxidative stress and stimulating melanocyte proliferation.
